Students are working on economic activities. They are learning about the sectors of economic activities. In groups, they chose a country and it´s main economic activities. They have been conducting a group research. Next week, they will share their research findings using google slides and a model representing the sectors of their economic activity.
Year 4 is working on economic activities in Brazil and around the world. They are learning about different levels within our economic system and getting familiar with how our economic system works. Students are getting their information from different sources. Next week they will begin with "Economic activities around the world" project. Fourth graders are also learning about weather and climate and the difference between them. We have been working in pairs on our Science Journals, it has been super fun.

Maple Bear books always giving support to what we read
Esta semana começamos
a unidade “Where We Are In Place and Time”, tendo como ideia central as
similaridades entre as civilizações antigas e modernas. Os students estão abordando
o significado do cidadão. O que significa ser cidadão? Quais são nossas responsabilidades?
Quais são as características de um bom cidadão? Tendo em vista o caráter
complementar das tarefas de casa, é de grande importância que os alunos mantenham-se
atualizados e em dia com seus deveres. Portanto,
o Raz Kids deve ser utilizado com frequência para reforçar o trabalho em sala
de aula. Esta semana estamos lendo “Ancient Egypt” livro que trata dos costumes
e da estrutura social do Egito antigo.
Brief stories describe classroom friendships, the importance of silence when the teacher is giving a lesson, the friendly way for borrowing and sharing storybooks, taking care of class material, and other typical school situations.
Several classroom games are suggested as activities for creative learning and play. The easy to understand stories teach students fundamental rules of good behavior. The brief stories dramatize typical events in children’s lives, showing kids as they interact with other children, with teachers, and with other adults.
The main character is Mei Mei. The problem is she just moved from Hong Kong to New York and Mei Mei hates English! Her family made her move to New York. She didn't want to move but she had to because she had to go to school. In school, kids only spoke English and she didn't. In Chinese, Mei Mei said to herself that she would not speak in school! One day, a new teacher, Miss Nancy, came to school, and she started to talk a lot. Mei Mei didn't like it. One day she got angry and said, "I've had it. From now on, I will speak English only when I feel like it!" What is Mei-Mei going to do? What do you think will happen?
Manuela : The character that I thought was interesting was Mei Mei because she was from a different culture. There was a person that changed. Yes, you guessed it. It was Mei-Mei. The way she changed was that she learned to love English! That was my favorite part. Love, Ms. Carla
I hope you enjoyed our Play dough mats activity. For your first experiment you will have to make PLAY DOUGH. Watch the following tutorials to find out the ingredients and procedure. I usually make Play doh every month, therefore feel free to ask me questions.
Recife has many cool stores that offer a variety of scents, food coloring, and even creme of tartar. Creme of tartar (Cremor de tártaro)is not an essential ingredient but will make your Play dough last longer. You can find creme of tartar and food coloring at Kinitos. If you are allergic to food coloring , get creative and use spices such as: ginger, cinammon, nutmeg or cloves. I love to add real ginger slices or coconut shreds to my Play dough. I also get my scented oils at Farmacia Piramide.
OBSERVATION: You do not have to follow my suggestions. You can add your own scents ( maybe you already have some scents at home). Sometimes I add strawberry or chocolate gelatin to my mixture. The brand Royal has many flavors to choose from.

Hoje relembramos formas geométricas e para aprimorar a atividade, fizemos com que os alunos buscassem objetos pela escola que lembrassem um quadrado, um triângulo, círculo, etc. Dessa forma, tivemos diversão de aventureiros exploradores de formas.
Utilizamos nosso quadro interativo para achar diversas formas geométricas em paiságens. Eles demonstraram bastante comprometimento com a atividade. Logo colocarei algumas dicas para "reinforce" o trabalhado na sala em casa! Vamos todos a ser aventureiros exploradores de formas.
Já iniciamos com Raz Kids, Estamos lendo fábulas na sala e fazendo atividades referentes
às fábulas. Eles tiveram que trabalhar com os Dictionaries e o Thesaurus.
A semana passada fizemos uma atividade de Carnaval com o movimento MAKER. Em grupo, eles tiveram que criar um estandarte! Agradecemos muito a parceria do MAKER e da biblioteca.
