As a team member of Year 4 I can proudly say that:
WE LOVE MUSIC, we are captivated by flutes, violins, drums, guitars, banjo´s
and even by our high pitched voices! Music is a big deal in our classroom… our
lovely neighbors ( Ms. Taty, Ms. Jana, Ms. Lu and Mr. Mason) share our passion
! They are constantly singing, dancing and whistling tunes. Therefore, we
motivate every single student to sing along with Year 4! It is such an
empowering feeling.
Interesting facts about Music:
1. The chills you
get when you listen to music, is mostly caused by the brain
releasing dopamine while anticipating the peak moment of a song.
Dopamine is a feel-good chemical released by
the brain. This chemical is directly involved in motivation.
These studies found a biological explanation for why
music always has been such a huge part of emotional
events around the world since the beginning of human history.
2.
There are few activities in
life that utilizes the entire brain, and music is one of them.
With Functional
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (FMRI), a research team recorded a group of
individuals who were listening to music. They found that listening to
music recruits the auditory areas, and employs large-scale neural
networks in the brain. In fact, they believe music can activate
emotional, motor, and creative areas of the brain.
3. An “earworm”
is a song that you can’t seem to get out of your head.
An earworm is a
cognitive itch in your brain. This “brain itch” is a need for
the brain to fill in the gaps in a song’s rhythm. The auditory cortex is
a part of your brain that will automatically fill in a rhythm of a
song. In other words, your brain kept “singing” long after the song
had ended.
So…here it goes, our monthly songs!
Blackbird
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.
Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Shimbalaie, when I see the sun kissing the sea
Shimbalaie, every time that he goes to sleep Nature, goddess of living
Pure beauty of birth
A flower shining in the light
Fisherman between the sea and the hook
Free thoughts like the sky
Imagine a paper boat
Going away to never return
Going like Iemanja
Chorus (2X)
Shimbalaie, when I see the sun kissing the sea
Shimbalaie, every time that he goes to sleep
How long will it be to learn
That a flower has life at birth
That a flower shining in the light
Fishing between the sea and the hook
Chorus (2X)
Shimbalaie, when i see the sun kissing the sea
Shimbalaie, every time that he goes to sleep
Being a captain of this world
Able to roll without borders
Live a year in seconds
Appreciate dreams as more than silliness
Become enchanted with books
That speak about vanity
When you like may it be needed
Being able to tell the truth
Chorus (4X)
Shimbalaie, when i see the sun kissing the sea
Shimbalaie, every time that he goes to sleep
Keep singing!
