Tivemos o dia do inventor. –Ms. Carla e Ms. Patricia

Kid Inventors Day
falls on Benjamin Franklin’s birthday and celebrates the curiosity and
entrepreneurship of kids. To encourage our students to dream about their
own inventions and learn about biographies, we celebrated an inventor’s day at
school. The first step was to work on Maple Bear curricula unit 5 “biographies”.
We catalogued our own classroom library and reserved a special “sanctuary” for
our incredible non-fiction books. We visited the library and explored the
biography section.
Students created
rapport with Fernando, our school librarian, he guided them and suggested many
books. Students shared the life of others through oral presentations and book
reports. Students were learning about Elvis, Jackson Pollock, Sally Ride, Steve
Jobs, Babe Ruth, Bill Gates, Queen Elizabeth even Barack and Michelle Obama were
involved. Although most of the above mentioned are not inventors, it served as
a trigger to introduce students to biographies. After, we invited them to
research about inventors using a variety of resources. Google classroom
provided a platform for guided research and keeping track of written evidence.
Fourth graders also created their own inventions and patents, they had a blast.
To finalize the unit project, they chose an inventor and created a trifold
presentation in both languages. Students took action by presenting their
character in different classrooms.
